Floor Finisher

The purpose of this position is to carry out professional floor preparation, finishing, restoration and coating works across residential, commercial and industrial projects. The role involves concrete polishing, epoxy and resin flooring installation, grinding, sealing, natural stone restoration and remedial flooring works while ensuring high standards of workmanship, safety and customer satisfaction.

Task & responsibilities

• Measuring floor areas and assessing surface conditions to determine material, equipment and labour requirements
• Grinding, repairing and preparing concrete and natural stone surfaces prior to coating, sealing or polishing
• Operating concrete grinders, polishers, vacuums and associated equipment
• Mixing and applying epoxy coatings, polyurethane coatings, sealers and resin flooring systems to manufacturer specifications
• Applying decorative flake flooring systems and protective floor coatings
• Sanding, polishing, sealing and restoring concrete, terrazzo, marble, travertine, limestone and other flooring surfaces
• Carrying out remedial flooring works, crack repairs, patching and surface levelling where required
• Identifying flooring defects and carrying out repair and remediation works
• Maintaining tools, machinery and equipment in safe working condition
• Following workplace health and safety requirements and safe work procedures at all times
• Communicating with clients, builders and supervisors regarding job progress and site requirements
• Maintaining cleanliness and organisation of work areas
• Loading, unloading and transporting equipment and materials to worksites
• Performing concrete polishing and mechanical grinding to achieve specified finishes and gloss levels

Qualification & experience

• Relevant qualification at the level of a Certificate III or higher, OR at least 3 years of relevant work experience will substitute for formal qualifications
• Minimum 3 years experience in floor finishing, concrete polishing, epoxy flooring, natural stone restoration, sealing or related flooring systems
• Experience operating floor grinding and polishing machinery and associated tooling
• Ability to prepare surfaces and apply floor coating systems to manufacturer specifications
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and site requirements
• Knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures and safe handling of chemicals and equipment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
• Physically fit and capable of manual handling duties
• Current driver licence preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, clients and other trades onsite
