We are seeking a qualified and experienced Civil Engineer to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis in Adelaide, South Australia. This involves planning, designing, and overseeing civil engineering projects across residential and commercial portfolios. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest engineering and safety standards.

Task & responsibilities

Determining construction methods, materials and quality standards for custom residential and commercial builds, and drafting and interpreting specifications, drawings, plans and construction procedures to ensure each Starlight Builders project is a true one-of-a-kind structure
Organising and directing site labour and coordinating the delivery of construction materials, plant and equipment across residential and commercial project, and establishing detailed programs to manage the sequencing and coordination of all site activities from commencement through to handover
Obtaining soil and rock samples at varying depths across residential and commercial build sites and testing samples to determine strength, compressibility and other geotechnical factors, in order to confirm safe foundation loading for new home and building structures
Studying architectural and engineering drawings and specifications for custom design-and-build projects to estimate total construction costs, and preparing detailed cost plans and estimates as tools to assist in budgetary control throughout each project lifecycle
Monitoring changes to custom residential and commercial designs, assessing the effects of those changes on overall project cost, and measuring, valuing and negotiating variations to designs in coordination with clients, architects and project managers
Analysing structural systems in custom homes and commercial buildings for both static and dynamic loads to ensure the structural integrity of all Starlight Builders projects, regardless of size or complexity
Designing structural elements of residential and commercial buildings to ensure they do not collapse, bend, twist or vibrate in undesirable ways, meeting all relevant Australian Standards and building code requirements applicable in South Australia
Assessing present and future traffic and access flow patterns for residential and commercial development sites, taking into account surrounding population growth and changes in community needs, to inform site layout and access design
Designing the physical aspects of site infrastructure and transportation access systems including driveways, internal roads, hardstand areas and logistics supply routes to and from residential and commercial project sites managed by Starlight Builders

Qualification & experience

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
Minimum 12 months full time or equivalent of work experience of working with both residential and commercial sites
Valid driver's licence preferable
Knowledge of civil construction practices and Australian Standards
Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear technical reports and liaise effectively with clients, contractors and regulatory bodies
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
