Quantity Surveyor / Senior Consultant

As a Quantity Surveyor / Senior Consultant, you will be responsible for providing cost estimation, commercial analysis, and construction claims advisory services across major engineering and construction projects.

You will play a key role in preparing detailed cost assessments, reviewing tender documentation, conducting delay and variation analysis, and supporting dispute resolution processes to ensure projects are delivered within approved time and budget parameters.

Task & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

• Organising, planning and managing engineering project labour and the successful delivery of materials, plant and equipment to be used for the project.
• Establishing detailed programs for the coordination of site activities.
• Creating and maintaining tools for budget control according to cost plans.
• Estimate and maintain accurate construction cost estimates throughout the project lifecycle.
• Identifying project and engineering problems through application of engineering technology and project planning methodology.
• Analysing, preparing and implementing construction staging plans.
• Preparing pre-construction management plan and building construction methodology reports.
• Determining and interpreting construction methods, procedures, materials and quality standards.
• Preparing complex construction programmes.
• Monitoring changes to designs, assessing effects on time and cost, and measuring, value variations to scope of works.
• Demonstrating commercial acumen in the review of documentation such as project budgets and construction schedules and producing detailed reports to line management regarding the same.
• Responsible for checking all documents prepared to ensure factual correctness and that quality standards are maintained.
• Demonstrating applied engineering by assisting in the preparation of technical procedures, work instructions, work schedules, estimates, and work method statements.
• Reviewing site records and perform delay analysis for the preparation or assessment of Extension of Time claims.
• Studying engineering drawings and specifications to estimate quantities, production rates and costs.
• Demonstrating ability to think laterally and displaying strong analytical and problem-solving skills to large scale engineering and construction projects.
• Supporting project managers, monitoring progress of projects and working with engineering clients to solve and escalate problems where necessary.
• Review tenderer’s submissions for large construction projects.
• Prepare construction claims analysis, dispute reports and delay calculations.

Qualification & experience

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil, Mechanical, or related Engineering
• Or other degree(s) or tertiary qualification(s) relevant to the services provided by TBH
• At least 2 - 3 years of experience in the role and relevant field
• Prepares draft reports
• Attends meetings and takes minutes
• Basic understanding of project management standards
• Prepares moderately complex construction programmes
• Establishes monitoring systems
• Assists with AS-Built programmes, delay schedules, and calendars
• Experience with one or more of the following project aspects: scope, time, cost, quality, risk, procurement, communications, resource management
• Intermediate experience with all software used by TBH
• Experience as a Team Leader
• Very good verbal and written communication skills
• Very good time management skills
• Contributes ideas and team performance

Desirable Skills / Technical Capabilities

• Construction programming and planning (CPM, project calendars, status updates)
• Contract administration and procurement planning
• Cost and cash flow interpretation, earned value analysis
• Claims, dispute resolution, and AS-Built programme preparation
• Quality assurance and project delivery methodologies (PMBOK, PRINCE2, P6)
• Basic to intermediate proficiency in TBH software and rates databases
• Construction induction accreditation (White Card / Blue Card)
• Introduction to master, design, and procurement planning
